Competent Skills

small business growth advisor

How can a business advisor or coach who knows far less about a business than the owner provide suitable support?

Watch this Video

Most business owners have spent many years becoming competent in their own area of expertise whether engineers, accountants, web designers, printers, or solicitors. Their education has rarely given them any competence in running a business. This requires additional expertise. A business owner must be able to manage finance and people above all else and part of people management is the ability to sell.

Many pick these competencies up by trial and error over a number of years and the more successful business owners bring on board people with the relevant skills and experience to provide the necessary support.

No matter how competent a business owner becomes he or she can rarely provide the impartial external view that a good business advisor, mentor, or coach can provide.
